Ever had a medical expense and wondered if it’s covered under your PHSP? Below you’ll find a non-exhaustive list (directly from the CRA website) of covered items as well as some of the most popular ways people use a PHSP to save more on their taxes.

 
 
  • Wondering whether your medical expense is covered under our plan?

    The CRA provides a look-up form. Type in your expense and, if it’s present on the form, then you will be covered under Corporate Care’s policy.

  • Below you’ll find the most common claims people make using a Corporate Care PHSP.
    If you’re not yet expensing one or more of the below items, make sure to include them on your next claim!

    • Braces

    • Chiropractic services

    • Dental work, except teeth whitening

    • Hearing Aids & batteries

    • Marijuana by prescription

    • Naturopathic consultations, but not supplements, vitamins or herbs

    • Physiotherapy

    • Prescription drugs

    • Premiums paid by your spouse for health benefits coverage

    • Remedial massage therapy

    • Services and procedures done by Medical Practitioners*

    • Sleep studies

    • Vision care including Lasik surgery

    *List for eligible medical practitioners.

  • We often get asked about the below items. Unfortunately these are not eligible under a PHSP according to CRA rules.

    • Over the counter medications (advil, aspirin, etc)

    • Vitamins, supplements, herbs

    • Gym fees, training fees

    • Any procedure done for SOLELY cosmetic reasons

  • If you’re travelling for medical reasons (e.g. a specialist appointment out of town), you can claim a portion of related travel expenses.

    The rules are as follows:

    • If your trip is over 40 kms one way, you can claim 52 cents per km as an expense.

    • Plus if your trip is over 80 kms one way, you and your companion* can claim:

      • $23 per meal up to $69 a day (per person).

      • The full cost of over-night accommodations.

      • The full cost of parking.

    *your companion must be necessary to the trip in order to consider
    them as an eligible expense (e.g. they’re driving you).
